Rahul Mehta of UCA’s Physics and Astronomy department received a $20,000 grant from the ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ Space Grant Consortium for a study involving the spectroscopic and morphometric analysis of bones under simulated microgravity using a hindlimb suspended animal model.
According to Mehta, “This project will allow us to understand the short- and long-term effects of space travel on human bones and help NASA astronauts in their future missions to the moon and maybe Mars that are being planned for year 2020 and beyond.”
The interdisciplinary study also will involve collaboration with the University of ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ at Little Rock and the University of ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ for Medical Sciences.
