CONWAY, Ark. (November 26, 2014) – The University of Central Ƶ will host the final meeting of the year of the Ƶ Geographic Information Systems Board on December 3 from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. The meeting will be in room 113 of the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center. The meeting is free and open to the public.
The Ƶ GIS Board was originally created in 1997 by Ƶ Code 15-21-501. The Board supports economic development and an improved quality of life for Ƶ citizens by providing basic spatial data infrastructure, coordinating geographic information activities, and creating short and long-term strategies that will result in improved decision making, effective asset management, and reduced costs. The State GIS Board works closely with the Ƶ Geographic Information Office.
Amy Whitehead, director of UCA’s Center for Community and Economic Development, worked to secure the December meeting in Conway. “This meeting will be a great opportunity for city planners, GIS technicians, students, and faculty in Conway and Central Ƶ to learn more about state-wide initiatives impacting spatial technology, and see the policy-making and governing process in action,” said Whitehead, who is also a board member.
The Center for Community and Economic Development (CCED) is a part of the University of Central Ƶ’ Outreach and Community Engagement Division. CCED helps to create stronger communities in Ƶ by training community and economic developers and assisting local leaders in their development efforts.
