ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was established in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874.  The purpose of the organization was to unite women in the fight against the sale of alcoholic beverages.  Frances Willard was elected WCTU President in 1879, and she directed the organization into a wide variety of activities, including Woman’s Suffrage.  By the Mid-1880’s the WCTU had over 200,000 members nationally.

The ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ branch of the WCTU was established in 1878. In 1899, the ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ WCTU named the Woman’s Chronicle, a Little Rock weekly, as its official organization.  Eventually the ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ White Ribboner became the journal of the state WCTU.

Arrangement:  The Central ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ Library System in Little Rock donated this collection to the Torreyson Library Archives, as duplicates from their collection.  It originally measured approximately .3 cubic feet and consisted of materials from 1908-1984.  This collection is contained in 1 box with 11 files.  When requesting materials from this collection, please specify collection number [M93-9] and the file number.
